All insights Insight #1

Your favorite brands may be politically different from what you think

We took 25 of the most recognizable companies in America and ranked them by political giving — the money their corporate PACs sent to candidates, parties, and committees. The pattern that emerges upends a lot of assumptions about which brands "play politics" and which stay quiet.

Don't see a company you care about? Look it up:

Apple gives almost nothing

The world's most valuable company disclosed just $38,000 in political giving — less than many brands' single filings.

Nike leans the other way

While nearly every big retailer and airline leans Republican, Nike's giving tilts Democratic — $398K to $123K.

Five brands show $0 federally

Tesla, Netflix, Costco, Starbucks, and Uber show no disclosed federal corporate/PAC giving in our FEC data. Some — notably Uber — give heavily at the state level, which is outside our federal coverage.

Home Depot leads everyone

The hardware chain out-gives every household name on the list — $3.2M, leaning Republican.

The full ranking

All 25 brands, ranked by Democratic/Republican split — most Democratic-leaning first. Blue = to Democrats, red = to Republicans.

Federal only. BuyAligned tracks political money disclosed to the FEC — federal candidates, parties, and PACs. It does not include state- or local-level contributions (e.g., ballot measures, state candidates), which are disclosed to separate state agencies and are out of scope here.
Totals sum publicly disclosed corporate/PAC disbursements to candidates, party committees, and other political committees across all available election cycles. Operating expenditures are excluded. Brands with $0 either operate no corporate PAC, have a PAC that has not disbursed, or are not yet resolved in our data — which is itself part of the story. Figures as of 2026-09-13; inclusion does not imply wrongdoing or a political position.
